Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon and Ahn Cheol-soo, a lawmaker from the People Power Party, agreed that the party must make a clear break with what they described as its “misguided past” and work together to broaden its appeal ahead of the June local elections.

The two met for about two hours over dinner on Tuesday at Seoul Partners House, the mayor’s official residence.

In a written briefing released after the meeting, Seoul Vice Mayor for Political Affairs Kim Byung-min said Oh and Ahn shared the view that the People Power Party “must sever ties with its wrong past and move forward as a competent, people-centered party focused on livelihoods.”

The discussion also centered on the upcoming local elections, with particular attention to Seoul, Gyeonggi Province and the wider metropolitan area. According to Kim, the two leaders exchanged views on how to overcome the party’s current challenges and strengthen its competitiveness in key battleground regions.

“They agreed to continue close communication on the path toward party change, expansion of its support base and greater unity,” Kim said.

The meeting underscored growing calls within the party for reform and a clearer repositioning as it prepares for a critical electoral test later this year.
