South Korea’s HD Hyundai has partnered with Germany’s Siemens to support the digital transformation and modernization of the U.S. shipbuilding industry while also training a new generation of skilled professionals.
The company announced on Sunday that the two firms signed a strategic memorandum of understanding (MOU) at the Lahan Select Gyeongju hotel, aimed at strengthening technological competitiveness and modernizing the American shipbuilding sector.
Under the agreement, HD Hyundai and Siemens will work together to improve ship design quality, minimize process risks, enhance productivity, and reduce costs — bolstering the overall competitiveness of U.S. shipyards.
The collaboration will combine HD Hyundai’s shipbuilding expertise with Siemens’ digital twin and business platform technologies to promote digital innovation across production lines.
Beyond technology development, the two companies will also launch a joint workforce training program to nurture shipbuilding specialists. HD Hyundai plans to leverage Siemens’ 30 training facilities across the United States to conduct hands-on education sessions for local trainees.
An HD Hyundai official said the partnership “will not only enhance the technological foundation of U.S. shipyards but also contribute to creating a sustainable and skilled shipbuilding workforce through education and innovation.”
